Thank you for watching my video and this review on ‘Blues For The Burnt Out Sun’ by Traildriftingtwins. I hope you liked it. Please check out the article that I published alongside this video on my website, with more information around the band and their debut release:
Well, when I received an email from the band asking me to review their record, and when they told me that it’s titled ‘Blues for the burnt-out sun’, I was more than happy to take them up on their offer. And what I can say, it was well worth it. Now, speaking of the title, the resemblance to Kyuss’ ‘Blues for the red Sun’ is definitely intentional, so I learned from the band. That gives you an idea around the material, which – while definitely out of the ordinary and from what you would probably expect – is centered around traditional Stoner Rock, Doom, Psychedelic and Desert Rock elements.
But as I said, Traildriftingtwins are coming in from a different angle. The foundation of their concept is using acoustic guitars as the base for everything. At times, effects such as heavy fuzz is used to create a distinct atmosphere.
The quality of production is at a level that you would expect it to be from a band who just started out and who has limited access to technology and equipment. To me, though, that’s secondary and definitely doesn’t take away from the substance of the material. As a matter of fact, and as I already stated, in my opinion, I’m actually glad that the sound is a little bit more rustic, because it just fits the spirit of the music better than an over-produced record.
So, definitely check them out. They sound great and they are onto something. Thanks again for watching and I’ll see you in the next video.
