dope review fam!! this album is a classic must have lyrics and dope beats-essence of hip hop. did you know on ma dukes that was his actual moms singing on the track. so dope 94 had to be the best year for hip hop albums wise! Special Year theres only 3 years that can compare 88 92 and 93 but 94 was that year

winter ramos says:

great review. You really broke it down to the tee, where alot of reviewers just talk about an album only from the surface.

much appreciated brotha

rankingpug says:

I’d like to believe that every syllable in “Time’s Up” has been sampled at some point. Classic album though… definitely slept on.

TheCrunchySopa says:

Another really good album from 94, an overall fav of mine. Production is tight, very jazzy and street, but at the same time not gritty/grimy. In other words, hard-street but not rugged-like. Buckwild at his best, he does good job handling majority of the prod. The drums are def proper. *And I know Lord Finesse did beat for ‘Ga Head specifically, really good joint. and well when it comes to O.C.. he’s actually one of my all-time favs. He’s real methodical/precise, and vivid with his rhymes/ much visceral. *curses very little, etc. When it comes to newer projects post 90s.. I’ve enjoyed em and know he’ll always bring it lyrically but his prod. gets bit bland/boring. *Not wack, but def subpar for a dude of his caliber. Oh and I’m not totally including Trophies ha, thought Apollo did him enough justice with the prod. That orchestra-like sound on it is dope, but it can get overbearing after heavy listens imo. OC’s gotta get back with DITC though! Anyways, peace

Franklin Clinton says:

OC did a song with Mic Geronimo

KillahTapes'93 says:

1st of all, thanks 4 reviewing “word…life”! a masterpiece in my opinion! Now, let me start by saying BUCK WILD is so overlooked it’s a crime! Son blessed this album with joints! his resume of work goes far beyond this project & u still don’t really hear his name come up on top producers lists!? I like EVERY joint on this album intro/outro included! But I can’t help not to mention “Born 2 live”. If I could ever write a complete rap song myself I could only hope to try & channel O.C’s enormous descriptive rhyme talent & heart felt emotion he captured on this particular joint! “now when somebody is gone, that’s when u realize how close u was how close u are…like a star real deep it takes time to heal & still from time to time u wish u could find the way to forgive & let him know u forgave but they can’t feel 6 ft deep inside the grave what’s left, but attend his wake believin’ if it was u he’d do it for old time sake, I’m disturbed by the news when I was told I was sittin’ knowin’ damn well boo ain’t bullsh×ttin’ my life flashed like big bills of ca$h & good times we had, now it’s all sad” sorry so long immobilarity1. but this joint is my sh×t! & has a special place in my heart yo! Thx again!

Adam says:

Dope review once again, just wanted to know if you’re fucking with any new school mc’s?

Speak Ya Clout Podcast says:

Great Review my dude. I love this album. I think it deserves the same praise as the likes of Illmatic and Ready To Die. O.C. is also underrated as a lyricist. dude is a top tier MC. I also think the album he did with Apollo Brown Trophies is one of the best albums in the last 15 years

MeeshUniVerSoul says:

One of your female subscribers here! Haha. This albums seriously had me stuck on stupid when I first heard it a year ago… i became obsessed lol. My only thing is that I never liked “Constables” and “No Main Topic”… the piano samples irked me, although the drums were tight. And it took me a while to get into “Point of Viewz” but it’s cool now. But all in all, this album is absolutely a GOAT! And I also had got the unreleased songs a few months ago and I’m so glad… O.C. is def an emcee I watch for now, he’s gotta be in my top 10. And I really love his “Starchild” album, a super dope project that I don’t see many people mentioning

david cobb says:

I love word life that’s my joint very lyrical

Mike Thompson says:

damn this album is dope. can’t believe I’ve never heard it before. I’ve heard the beat from times up many times and never knew where it came from!

Liridon Cenaj says:

Thanks for reviewing this album! I love O.C., he is my favorite emcee, so underrated, Word…Life is one of my favorite album, his flow and voice are amazing, his verses are so well constructed, production is amazing, this album is as equal as Illmatic, probably better, people don’t even know who O.C. is. It’s such a shame.
I think in Time’s Up he disses gangsta rap emcees, specifically West Coast, same thing as Jeru The Damaja does at Come Clean, let me hear your opinion about that.
I suggest you to check O.C. Last album The Trophies with Apollo Brown if u haven’t, amazing album, probably will be a classic later!

david cobb says:

and what bugs me out in a great way you be studying my dude I peep that you be knowing the history and the origins amazing

Byrdee Entertainment says:

ÉlChamoSucio says:

Nas was gonna name his debut word life until he met O.C. and O.C. said that he was also gonna name his debut word life. Nas went up to MC Serch and said “Im gonna call it Illmatic”

canibusnj says:

Highly underrated and quintessential 90’s album. It’s a shame The Source Magazine never reviewed it. It probably would have garnered AT LEAST 4 mics!!! Also MC Serch was the one who I think advised OC for a solo career and album and that’s why he left Pharoahe and Po. If I’m not mistaken he executive produced this project. Remember he was in the “Times Up” video.

david cobb says:

one of my favorite albums classic
