Dead Weather. Check it out.
Dude, if you liked this record, you have to check out all his other stuff. First two solo records, the white stripes. the raconteurs, and the dead weather. I envy you for getting to experience it all for the first time.
Maybe you should listen to the White Stripes’ De Stijl as I’d say it’s the most similar in style to Boarding House Reach of all of Jack White’s records.
Check out The White Stripes White Blood Cells! I think it’s they’re best work(with some great Orson Welles references, especially The Union Forever, with most or all lines directly from Citizen Kane. He obviously has a great appreciation for Orson Welles, as do I(i.e. Third Man Records, etc.). A very eclectic and interesting album!
Congrats to Michael of PA for winning this week’s pick!
Have all his other work ( love or like them ) but this album not for me ( sounds artificial or out of space outside of the female singers )
Raconteurs are the best jack white has ever done
Congratulations you have finally done a review on Boarding House Reach
Nice review, this is definitely one of my favourites for this year. You should definitely check out Wide Awake! by Parquet Courts, another favourite of mine.
Anything by The Cramps or Captain Beefheart and his Magical Band, like Trout Mask Replica? Or The Cure or maybe Gish by Smashing Pumpkins?
I had a hard time with this one. I am a huge fan of Jack White. The White Stripes were my first truly favorite band from the age of 13. I love The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and his other two solo albums. This one is just so different. However, I listened to it repeatedly and it’s grown on me. It’s a fascinating record. It has some pretty interesting experiments alongside some killer tracks like “Respect Commander” and “Over and Over and Over”
Idk, I just can’t get excited about anything Jack White has done since White Stripes. This review hasn’t changed that. This stuff you’ve played mostly irritates me. :/
You have to try his last album.
If none of those bands are your cup of tea, I HIGHLY recommend The Dead Weather. That’s my favorite Jack White project
I’d recommend to listen to Elephant and De Stijl, they’re his masterpieces
Abulia and Akrasia is a spoken word by CW Stoneking, not Jack White
Best this year,so far
Hmm my opinion goes completely the other way. I loved White Stripes, I loved The Dead Weather, I kinda liked his last two albums too. But God this record is boriiiing. It just didn’t work for me, it sounds like it’s trying too hard to be complex and experimental but it fails at it badly. He really doesn’t find a new sound in this record, Sounds 100% like Jack White except this time songs are not really songs it’s just a mess of pieces that don’t fit together. Lots of great riffs and drum beats and I love the loose drumming style. But as a whole, None of the songs work for me. And I gave it time because I bought the record, it’s expensive and I kinda tried to force myself into liking it. But after the 6th time listening I thought ” Nope. Nope. this isn’t working for me “
Thank you, I’ve been waiting for this review.
I got the special edition of the album through Third Man Records’ Vault subscription. It has a different album cover that I like more and the vinyl looks black on the turntable, but if you hold it up to the light or the sun, is an amazing translucent blue.
PARQUET COURTS!!!!!
I don’t really like it. Nearly every song has something that I like, but also something I would change that keeps it from being a good song. The only track I can say I fully love is over and over
jack white sucks
This album is a sonic masterpiece.
Can you please review Love by The Beatles
Great video! can you review arctic monkeys new album, would love to know what you think about it!
What about Sex & Food by Unknown Mortal Orchestra?
I was upset that my album didn’t come with a digital download code, because I believe that all vinyl should come with them these days. That being said, it forced me to hook up my record player to my computer and learn how to transfer an album to my computer, edit it with Audacity and create my own mp3s. Quite the learning experience, but now I have started transferring some of my older albums to my computer now. Turntable Lab has a great guide if this interests anyone.
Отличный альбом от Джека Уайта)))
Wide Awake! by Parquet Courts. It’s the closest you can get to a punk band sounding funky in recent years
Nice review
I feel like it’s pretty clear he’s talking about actual dogs in the second track
“somebody mated them and took their babies away, stuck a price tag on their nose. and now you’re buying it clothes”
Ice Station Zebra is a 1968 Cold War era suspense and espionage film directed by John Sturges, starring Rock Hudson amongst others.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
I think this is a love it or hate it album.
I love odd, weird, out there music but I can’t stand this, I feel its trying too hard.
WoW, i have to get this if you love it that much !! It must be beautiful !!
Humoresque was written by Al Capone to his girlfriend while he was incarcerated at Alcatraz.
If you’re looking to get into white stripes De Stijl is a really great album. So are the others, I started with Elephant (I stuck with only listening to it in the Jack White department for years) it’s pretty damn great too but I was really impressed with De Stijl and regretted not listening to it way sooner.
Might give this one a listen. I was a big fan of The White Stripes but not so much of his solo work. I just can’t get into it.
See you switched to that Fluance back there.
Not a fan of Jack White, White Stripes, or Raconteurs. Blasphemy!!!
Worst album I‘ve heard this year
not into jack white . but he knows to keep it pure . old tube amp sounds , vintage cheap guitars , all analog recording process . shows to me he really cares . glad he took so long between records . like all his videos
If you liked this one I’d say The white stripes album that are like this the most are Get Behind Me Satan or Icky Thump in terms of pushing the boundaries of jacks music. If you are looking for the overall best white stripes album I’d say De Stijl which is imo one of the best blues albums ever
So damn underrated
