Your Queen Is a Reptile should go down as one of the most exhilarating and revolutionary jazz records of 2018.

Can you make classic reviews a regular thing on this channel
Review Lala Belu!
Most likely and deserved the 2018 Mercury Prize Winner.
These blacks can get the fuck out of the UK if they have no respect for the nation, and it’s people, heritage, and traditions. They don’t belong there, they aren’t native.
*YoU LIke jaZZ?*
Fantano, how many yellow flannel shirts do you own?
such a fucking good album
Awesome. Would love to see some more Funk, Soul and Jazz on your channel, melon. 🙂
The percussion to me felt like some 90s brass bands, hot eight rebirth etc

I think you missed this record Ezra Furman
Clean shave melon looks the best !
Good jazz from recent years for those who say this is a rare case of the genre being good for a change:
Hailu Mergia – lala belu (ethio jazz, long jams from a legend in the ethio jazz scene)(2018)
Wanja Slavin Lotus Eaters – Salvation (post bop)(2018)
Various artists – We out here (nu jazz, seems to be one of the popular ones so far this year before Sons of Kemet ruined it!)
Akira Sakata, Chikamorachi & Masahiko Sato – Proton Pump (free jazz, some big name oldies from the japanese scene still releasing solid stuff)(2018)
Quin Kirchner – the other side of time (post bop, might be a bit long but it’s very varied & you dont miss out on breaking it into smaller chunks)(2018)(personal fav so far this year)
Capri-batterie & Stewart Lee – Bristol Fashion (British humor, Free Improv)(2018)
Walter Smith III – Twio (post bop, fun drumming and bass + delicious sax melodies)(2018)
Irreversible Entanglements – self titled (Avant Garde Jazz, really powerful spoken word)(2017)
Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra – Vula (Jazz/classical fusion, simply beautiful)(fav jazz of last year)
Somi – Petite Afrique (Gorgeous vocal jazz)(2017)
Samo Šalamon Sextet – The Colours Suite (Avant Garde Jazz, very colorful)(2017)
Angels 9 – Disappeared Behind the Sun (Experimemtal Big Band, lovely melodies and wonderful composition)(2017)
LAM – LAM (Minimalistic avant garde jazz, just a long huge progression, really pleasant)(2017)
Ambrose Akinmusire – The imagined Saviour is far easier to paint (Post Bop, Vocal Jazz)(2014)
Matana Roberts – Coin Coin Chapter One: Gens de couleur libres (Spiritual jazz, Spoken word)(2011)
Blacksheep – Blacksheep (Wonderful melodic avant garde jazz from Japan)
Getatchew Mekuria & The Ex & Guests – Moa Anbessa (Long jams, Ethio Jazz, Post Punk, super interesting fusion)(2006)
Flat Earth Society – Psychoscout (Experimemtal Big Band, current favourite big band to come out after the 2000’s)(2006)
World Saxophone Quartet – M’Bizo (soulful cheerful free jazz with afro rhythms)(1999)
Cba adding more, pretty new to jazz as well so mostly dug through this year and last as is probably pretty evident based on these picks. Hope this will be useful to some, it’s just my personal taste anyway.
Yeah old jazz is really crowded with gems but dont dismiss new jazz because of this, the scene right now is rather exciting though harder to dig through and find gems in. Maybe you’ll find smth to your liking in here 🙂
Can anyone recommend me other albums like this?
Ok but is it just me or did you hear Chemical Brothers Do It Again on the song My Queen is Anna Julia Cooper?? I stg.
Thought this said Sons of Kermit, which would be a wayyyy different album 8/10.

My Queen is Melon Head
HOLY SHIT I JUST FINISHED LISTENING TO THIS AND IT WAS INCREDIBLE, ALBUM OF THE YEAR SO FAR NO DOUBT
I had the pleasure of seeing Sons of Kemet last year at Boomtown Festival, they’re a bustling and infectious band that really know how to get you headbanging. I recommend anyone who is a fan of Jazz and groove-style music to give ’em a listen, they’re incredible at getting your fuckin body moving sporadically.
Fathers of Facebook, Your Zucc Is a Reptile
