Also, dude! Great fkn video, I’m glad you enjoyed the album as much as I do, but also really enjoyed your review approach more than any other I’ve come across so far! Much respect.
A little context I came across in the only recent interview:
Playing Possum leads into the last two tracks, which were the only two recorded after his father’s passing in January.
Peanut is the most direct track to address his feelings about that (meaning “blood on my father” and other references were almost certainly recorded prior to his passing), with the last lyrics being “My Uncle Hugh,” who passed two weeks following Thebe’s father Keorapetse.
Riot! is mostly comprised of a sample of said Uncle Hugh (also likely the same referenced in naming the track “Huey”), with added mixing, warping, and chopping by Thebe and Shamal of Standing On The Corner.
this album is definitely something that you have to listen to a couple times to absorb all of its content. earl is clearly going through an ascension. he is so exclusive. I love it.
YO THIS IS HANDSDOWN THE BEST REVIEW FOR THIS ALBUM. LOVE THE INTERVIEWS BUT WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE REVIEWS ON A CONSISTENT BASIS. BEEN FOLLOWING SINCE FANTANO POSTED YOU. KEEP IT UP BRO
