Almost 50 years later, and the Velvet Underground’s debut LP is still an exciting, gritty, moving, and sometimes puzzling listen. A must-listen for fans of rock’s more experimental side.
What did you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Why? What should I review next, eh?

I like how objective the depictions of addiction are. Like they’re presented without clearly being for or against drug use
This whole album is incredibly overrated.
Honestly I think the album starts too strong compared to the rest of the album
You went from a real funny bit, to begin your video, then went in on a straight up damn as all hell sad album… how’d you even do that?!
What a clon.
FOREVER CHANGES BY LOVE NEEDS A REVIEW PLEASE!!!
I’ve never watch past the intro
Dam anthony youre just making me want to go listen to sunday morning
I could be wrong but where you’re saying Viola I always thought it was Cale on a Cello?
Sunday Morning is an upbeat song about committing suicide
Review Surfer Rosa or Doolittle
And for fuck sake review Daydream Nation.
I love your break down on this, considering how complex it all is.
Subscribed.
This has to be my favorite intro to any of your videos
I wish I was alive to see the exploding plastic inevitable with nico and the velvet underground live. That shit was said to have been crazy… playing and projecting a live recording of the song on them while they played the song. Along with crazy flashing lights and snippets of the Andy Warhol films in and out of the live footage… it would have been insane… the velvet underground is one of my favorite bands and I would have really enjoyed seeing them live…
And i feel like Jesus son
The cal part kills me everytime
Vevnumberound
Or as Christgau put it, “Nobody experimented better than these guys”
LEAST FAV TRACK IS EUROPEAN SON
IM COMING FOR YOU MELON MAN
I WILL FUCKING DESTROY YOU
I love this album just for heroin
This album just brings me to that place. Idk what it is, or what it means, but it does every time I listen to it all the way through, this album was meant to be listened to all the way through as well.
Heroin is probably my favourite song of all time, as a used to be addict i can say it paints a perfect picture of heroin addiction, and it has helped me from slipping back.
currently, my favorite tracks (in no particular order) are Heroin, Sunday Morning, Venus in Furs, All Tomorrow’s Parties, and Femme Fatale (which grew on me way more than I thought it would.)
All in all, while I wouldn’t call it one of the BEST ALBUMS EVER, it’s still a very creative and engaging record, and deserves its place in the Halls of Fame and such.
Am I slow? or am I the only one that realised how “andy warhol” is printed on the underwear on the rolling stones album cover “Sticky Fingers” and the banana on this album represents the fake bulge on the cover?¿?¿
White light white heat is better
Lou Reed himself didn’t actually use heroin. He was writing about the dark, underbelly themes of New York City, especially of what he saw at the Warhol Factory. Nico was the only one who actually used it. Lou did however use amphetamine, which was a large inspiration for all the music on White Light/White Heat. I’m glad you mentioned There She Goes. When I was younger and I heard him sing, “You better hit her,” and the guitars and drums play those strong accented beats, I always got terrible images of battery and domestic abuse. My favorite is either Sunday Morning or Run Run Run. Album wise, White Light/White Heat is my favorite, but Loaded is a damn fine record too. Their self titled is garbage.
Great teeth
The Velvet Underground are the luckiest band to ever exist. Think about it, a few bad musicians came together, smashed out some noise, and are only talked about today because Andy Warhol thought they were cool.

DRONING VIOLAS
I’ll be Your Mirror, that’s my favorite. Such a beautiful sentiment sung beautifully.
One of my all time favorite albums. I want to say that Nico was a member of the band. Not just a guest.
I did give it a listen, today actually! Very early this morning. I don’t love it but, I do like it a whole lot and will definitely listen to all of their work in the distant future.
Cal is an assic
1967, Rocks greatest year in my opinion!
The lyrics and the absolute Chaos that heroin breakdown into why it’s my favorite track! This album is great from start to finish
Do slippery when wet
AN EXCELLENT TRANSITION
Between the Cal Intro and the actual review.
This was the first video I watched from the melon. It’s funny because I got the impression that Anthony loved Cal, not hated him lol.
Love and miss Nico.
Such a fantastic album! Even the last few messy songs work so well
My favourite Velvet Underground album is their self titled, beside White Light/White Heat.
HEROIN IS THE BEST SONG
Heroin is the best …song
Can u do a Jimi Hendrix album
I like how he steps outside of himself when he writes his songs. It is really what makes the Velvet Underground deceptively simple.
Favorite album ever!
0:13 OMG! Those ARE the best teeth in the game!
