Mitch Watkins says:

I just couldn’t get into this. You give Ordinary Corrupt Human Love a 5 but this an 8? This just sounds like a glorified butt-rock album to me. I couldn’t make it through this.

Morris Bristow says:

This might be the best metal album I’ve heard this year because of its uniqueness and how impure – and occasionally off-putting – it is. 9/10
As for the notion of purity in metal: Isn’t metal supposed to be, in a sense, musical rebellion? Purity has it’s place, but applying it to the whole genre and all sub-genres would be contradictory to both artist creativity and the notion of rebelliousness.

BasementBox9 says:

The story of how he got the inspiration for Zeal & Ardor’s genre mix from a /mu/ post is one of my favorites of all time.

Internet Nobody says:

they did a rerelease of Devil is Fine when they got picked up by a label that had better mastering and some variation in productions. you should listen to the rerelease if it slipped by your radar you beautiful melon

Spirit walker says:

AAAAEEERRRGGGGHHHHHHH……BLACK METAL IS HORRRRRIIIIBLE !!! ……I HATE BLACK METAL……IRON MAIDEN FOREVEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR !!!!

Yngve Tundrali says:

I like how the genres don’t blend as much on Devil Is Fine as it does on Stranger Fruit. The contrast makes it more unique and enjoyable. Stranger Fruit sounds washed out and kinda generic [compared to DIF], IMO.

Hymen Buster says:

If anyone is wondering: Stranger Fruit comes from a poem that Manuel had a lot of inspiration from for this. Also his version of the term ‘stranger fruit’ is someone that hung themselves from a tree. Like a strang fruit, they hang and sway back and forth in the wind.

_chary says:

This is the album that me and you Anthony have the biggest divide on. I don’t think he came close to capturing any of the spirt of the old spirituals and i wouldn’t know thats what he was even attempting to do if i wasn’t told. To my ears the gospel is present in name only and just barley after being drowned in a mass of overproduction. To me it sounds like lackluster blues re-heated and put over some loud metal. I was disappointed to say the least.

Thorngrave says:

4thany Chantano

DeD51L3NC3 says:

I love this Album

Sole Substance says:

This is probably the best new album I’ve heard this year, and it’s by far the most original.
